As part of its sustainable development strategy, Prague Airport has long-term efforts to reduce its carbon footprint, including by using electric cars.
Fifteen of them were added to the airport fleet this week. He plans to purchase the same number next year as well. Of this year’s fifteen vehicles, five will be intended for carsharing, the rest will be used in various operational components of the airport. Another Nissan electric car has been serving at the airport for four years in the baggage class.

“The new Dacia Spring electric airport vehicles cause less CO2 emissions than, for example, a car of a similar type with a gasoline engine and, above all, zero emissions at the place of the electric car’s own operation. Given that Prague Airport plans to cover 100 percent of its electricity consumption from renewable sources by 2030, electric cars will also refuel with electricity with zero CO2 emissions. In 2023, it will be at least 72 percent of green electricity from the environment,” says Soňa Hykyšová, director of the Environment, Sustainability and ESG Department at Václav Havel Prague Airport.
Achieving carbon neutrality by 2030 is the long-term goal of Prague Airport. Therefore, since 2012, it has already implemented a number of energy-saving projects, from replacing lighting, installing new boilers, optimizing the operation of air conditioning, and more. Starting in 2019, the airport also uses electricity from renewable sources, by purchasing green electricity, but also from 2022 its own photovoltaic power plant, which will be put into operation at Terminal 3. In 2021, the carbon footprint of Prague Airport was reduced by 72.5 percent compared to in 2009. Decarbonisation of the airport is also one of the main pillars of the company’s ESG strategy.
