Prague 3 has launched a competition to decorate the portal of the Žižkov tunnel
The Prague 3 district intends to add a work of art to Tachovská náměstí to decorate the entrance to the Žižkov Tunnel. Žižkov City Hall has currently launched a competition for the creative solution of the portal. The artwork is to culminate the overall revitalization of the square.
The outdoor artwork will appear on approximately 270 square meters on two parallel retaining walls and the front wall at the entrance to the tunnel. “The artistic concept of the work, the form of its artistic rendering and its compositional integration into the space is left to the free will and free creativity of the authors,” it is written in the tender documentation. Authors are to bring a proposal “artistic, material and technical solution”.
The “humanization” of Tachovské náměstí itself will be carried out by the company Gardenline, which won the tender with a price of 61.3 million crowns. The town hall is planning, for example, to better connect the area with Vítkov and the bike path below it, to build a central area or to add greenery.
The building of the former toilets will disappear from the unsightly patch, there will be seating in the center of the square under the trees, and living areas will be created along the houses with the possibility of installing restaurant gardens. The entrance to the bike path will be barrier-free and the lawn will lead to the vineyard at the foot of Vítkovo. Modifications should begin this year and last a year.
The Žižkov Tunnel has been connecting Žižkov and Karlín since the early 1950s. It serves pedestrians and cyclists.
