A woman was advising tourists in the center of Prague, while another man stole her purse
“I went with my children for a detour to the center of Prague to pick up something, I parked in Široká Street, where I stayed for about half an hour. After returning to the car, I put my things on the passenger seat, a small purse and a small paper bag,” the robbed woman described to iDNES.cz.
However, a man who spoke fluent English approached her by the car and asked about the way to the museum. However, the woman cannot advise him on this.
“He replied that he didn’t mind and left. I returned back to the car and at that moment I was disappointed by an unpleasant feeling,” said the victim. While she was visiting with a tourist, an unknown man approached the vehicle unnoticed from the other side and stole her purse with valuables from the seats. “This resulted in damage to the woman amounting to almost hundreds of thousands of crowns,” said police spokesman Richard Hrdina.
The woman began to look for the purse, but in vain. “As soon as I tried to press the cars without success, it became clear to me that the purse was really gone, because I also had the keys to the car in it,” she commented, adding that she was no longer seen with her purse on the street. “I had no choice but to call the police from a borrowed phone from a passerby,” the woman said.
The police have secured CCTV footage from the scene of the theft, which shows four men. “It is evident that the four men are communicating with each other, even though at first glance it seemed that they did not know each other,” the spokesperson described. The video shows that immediately after the theft, a pair of men pass an unspecified object behind a parked van that was standing nearby.
“If you recognize any of the men on the recording, or if you have information about their movements, please contact 158,” urged Hrdina’s witnesses, adding that the perpetrators face up to two years behind bars.
