- Schumacher and Friends win 11 to 10 against the Nowitzki All Stars

The benefit soccer game “Champions for Charity” in honor of #Formula 1 legend Michael #Schumacher ended with a total of 21 goals and a donation of 100,000 euros. The team of Formula 1 pilot Mick Schumacher prevailed 11 to 10 (4 to 4) against the team of #basketball #champion Dirk Nowitzki. Both competed with Formula 1 world champion Sebastian Vettel and #soccer #world champion Mats Hummels as well as many active and former top athletes in Deutsche Bank Park in front of 15,120 spectators. The proceeds of the game go equally to the 41 Campus of the Dirk Nowitzki #Foundation and the Keep Fighting Foundation of the Schumacher family.
Lots of scorers
The first goal of the evening was scored by Laura Freigang from Eintracht Frankfurt for the Schumacher and Friends team under coach Friedhelm Funkel. Mick Schumacher scored three goals himself, Sebastian Vettel contributed two goals. From among the DTM drivers, Maro Engel was successful in front of the gate. Gerald Asamoah, Stefan Kießling and Martin Hinteregger scored for the Nowitzki All Stars. The most successful goal scorer in Dirk’s team was Christian Ott, an employee of ING Germany and winner of a wildcard. Dirk Nowitzki acts as player-coach in goal and alternates with #Europa League winner Kevin Trapp.
Many sports represented
Other Eintracht Frankfurt players included Karl Heinz Körbel, Uwe Bindewald, Rudi Bommer, Pirmin Schwegler and Ervin Skela. Other former professional footballers were there in the form of René Adler, Giovane Élber, Sami Khedira and Felix Kroos. CEO Stefano Domenicali and former racing drivers David Coulthard and Mika Häkkinen also played from Formula 1. In addition to reigning DTM champion Maximilian Götz, fellow drivers Kelvin van der Linde, Felipe Fraga and DTM team manager Timo Bernhard were also there. Also on the field were beach volleyball player Karla Borger, former ski racer Felix Neureuther, former ski jumpers Sven Hannawald and Martin Schmitt, former hockey player Moritz »Mo« Fürste, former basketball player Pascal Roller and former handball players Pascal Hens, Dominik Klein and Christian » Blacky« Schwarzer. Also table tennis pro Timo Boll, soccer player Patrick “Coach” Esume, bobsleigh athlete Thorsten Margis, Paralympian Gerd Schönfelder and gymnast Fabian Hambüchen.
Artists provide the supporting program
Giovanni Zarrella and Michael Schulte provide musical entertainment during the half-time break. The football freestylers Marcel and Pascal Gurk show their skills before and during the party and Ninja Warrior Germany Champion René Caselly crowned his goal with a flick flack. Presenter Evren Gezer from Hitradio FFH played for the Nowitzki All Stars, her colleague Julia Nestle, together with Matze Bielek, moderated the game in the arena in summery temperatures and a great atmosphere.

“Champions for Charity” is the charity football game of the top athletes in honor of Formula 1 legend Michael Schumacher. On the initiative of Dirk Nowitzki and Mick Schumacher and with the support of ING Germany, athletes from many disciplines competed for a different good cause for the fourth time. Proceeds from the game go to the 41 Campus of the Dirk Nowitzki Foundation and the Schumacher family’s Keep Fighting Foundation. After 2016 and 2017 in Mainz and 2019 in Leverkusen, “Champions for Charity” came to the Deutsche Bank Park in Frankfurt am Main on August 24, 2022 at the invitation of the city of Frankfurt.
