The rose garden in Prague’s Petřín is being landscaped for the capital for around 33.6 million crowns including VAT by the company Gardenline. The result of the tender was approved by city councilors on Monday. Modifications will include new surfaces, the replacement of benches and other furniture or the addition of greenery. A few years ago, the city also had the park in the vicinity of the Petřín lookout modified.
“As part of the revitalization, road surfaces will be replaced, inappropriate buildings will be removed, furniture elements will be replaced, including a new drinking fountain, and plantings will be added. there will be a replacement of the existing water pipeline, which could not be used due to leaks,” it is in the approved document.
According to earlier information, the work could start this year, but it is mostly expected until next year. In 2018, the city also completed modifications to the surroundings of the Petřín lookout, which underwent a complete renovation. In 2019, the management of the municipality planned to build a facility with toilets in the Great Strahov Garden, but after criticism from some local residents, they ultimately canceled the project.
The Rose Garden on Petřín is located between the Hunger Wall and the historical fortifications. The grounds formerly served military purposes before being converted into gardens in the 1930s. The upper station of the cable car and the MR Štefánika observatory are located in the park.
