The average wage in Prague reached CZK 49,221 in the 2nd quarter of 2022

The gross monthly salary of employees in Prague reached the value of CZK 49,221 in the 2nd quarter of 2022 and was thus again the highest among the regions. It exceeded the national average by 22.8%. The county with the second highest wage (Central Bohemia, CZK 41,825) had an average salary of 4.3% higher than the average for the Czech Republic (CZK 40,086). Compared to the 2nd quarter of 2021, wages in Prague increased by 5.7% in nominal terms and decreased (after taking into account the increase in consumer prices) by 8.7%. In the whole of the Czech Republic, there was a real drop in the average wage by 9.8%.
The regional picture of the distribution of the average gross monthly wage remains the same in the long term. Prague (with an average gross monthly salary of CZK 49,221) a Central Bohemian Region (CZK 41,825) exceed the Czech average (CZK 40,086) with their gross wages. In the 2nd quarter of 2022, the other regions did not reach the national average wage levels. The region with the third highest wage was the region South Moravian (CZK 39,041). AGAINST Karlovy Vary (CZK 34,725), Pardubice (CZK 35,385) a Zlín region (CZK 35,864) was the lowest level of average wages.

Compared to the 2nd quarter of 2021, the number of employees in Prague increased by a significant 27.3 thousand (3.3%) to 850.9 thousand in the 2nd quarter of 2022. This represented more than half of the increase in the number of employees in the entire Czech Republic, where their number increased by 49.9. Also in South Moravian (467.0 thousand employees in the 2nd quarter of 2022) a Central Bohemia region (417.5 thousand employees) there was an increase in the number of employees (by 7.1 thousand or 6.7 thousand), although it was much less significant than in Prague. Together with Prague, the number of employees in these three regions increased by 41.1 thousand, which represented 82% of the nationwide increase in the number of employees. In two regions (Ústí with 241.4 thousand employees and Liberecký with 143.2 thousand employees) the number of employees decreased, but only slightly (by 0.7 or 0.1 thousand).

Figure 3 illustrates the development of average gross wages and the registered number of employees in Prague in individual quarters from 2018. While during the coronavirus epidemic in 2020 and 2021 the economic situation was manifested mainly by reductions and fluctuations in the number of employees, in the last two quarters the economic situation in the Czech Republic has with equally high inflation, the effect is primarily on the real level both in Prague and in other regions.
