How much unemployment has decreased in Moldova since the beginning of the year
In the first half of 2022, there were 17.4 thousand vacant jobs and 13.1 thousand unemployed, according to data from the National Employment Agency. Compared to the past, the number of registered vacancies increased in the reference period by 13%, and the number of registered unemployed decreased by 27%, informs Noi.md with reference to agora.md.
Of the total number of registered unemployed, people without a professional qualification make up 68%, or 3 pp more than in the similar period of the previous year, which indicates an increase in the shortage of qualified labor.
By region, a more balanced situation between demand and supply can be found in the Center and South regions, and in the regions. Kishinev and North there is a significant discrepancy between demand and supply.
In terms of territory, a balance between demand and supply is observed in the districts Snowdrifts, Ialoveniand Cahul, where the number of job vacancies approaches the number of registered unemployed. At the same time, a significant labor force surplus and respectively a shortage of vacant jobs can be found in the districts: Drochia, Ocniţa, and UTAG. A more accentuated labor force deficit can be seen in the municipality of Chisinau.
In the same way, there is a significant difference between demand and supply on the labor market in terms of rural/urban environments: of the total number of unemployed registered in six – 63% were from rural localities, and the vacant jobs in this sector constituted only 15 % of the total number of registered vacancies.
Also, analyzing the demand and supply according to the level of education, it can be observed that there is a greater demand on the market for people with a low level of education (primary/secondary school – 34%), the share of unemployed with secondary/primary education being 58%.
Regarding the distribution of vacancies and the unemployed, most are in Agriculture, forestry and fishing and Accommodation and catering activities. A pronounced labor shortage prevails in Industry, Construction, Wholesale and retail trade, Health and social care and Information and communications.
