Southeast Europe Energy Forum in Thessaloniki
More relevant and useful than ever, the leading institution that has left its mark on Southeastern Europe for Energy is back.
As noted in a related update, “The Hellenic-American Chamber of Commerce and the Hellenic Energy Economy Societyin collaboration with US Embassy in Greece and with the strategic support of the American think-tank Atlantic Council and his US Chamber of Commerce organize for the sixth consecutive year the South East European Energy Forum (SEEF2022) the manufacture, September 9, 2022, at the MET Hotel in Thessaloniki. The Forum will be held, as has been established in recent years, one day before the official opening of the Thessaloniki International Exhibition, in a hybrid format.
The Southeast Europe Energy Forum is a leading institutional event, which through the strong collaborations of the Hellenic-American Chamber of Commerce, and especially for the institutional and business ecosystem of the USA, has left its mark associated with the energy sector in Southeast Europe.
The energy crisis in a constantly changing global environment draws the road map of the next day and gives birth to new conditions in the international markets. Especially since the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, the energy sector has become a cornerstone of the global economy and an issue of major importance to both state governments and international forums, as well as to every citizen.
The changes that have come a completely new reform framework. On the part of Greece, which is an important energy hub in the wider region exploiting its geographical advantage, it has prioritized stability as well as green and sustainable development. This is mainly due to the increase in energy costs, which, in addition to rising inflation, has already caused strong social concerns in many countries, causing a growing debate on policies related to energy security and the energy transition. For Greece, the need to exploit all available energy sources with an emphasis on RES is imperative in combination with the strengthening of our electricity networks and the development of appropriate energy storage systems.
At the same time, Europe’s energy dependence on cross-border energy producers and its inability to locate the desired self-sufficiency and remain unaffected by fluctuations in international prices, creates situations that must be immediately addressed. Europe is called upon to find a solution and take immediate measures to limit the energy and economic impact of this global crisis, sticking to the political act that has been adopted and avoiding potential environmental burdens.
On the other side of the Atlantic, the United States is ready to make a decisive contribution to the energy supply (de-dependence?????) of Europe and to meet medium- and long-term energy needs by exporting American liquefied natural gas (LNG). At the same time, as shown by the recent study, conducted by the Atlantic Council in collaboration with the Hellenic-American Chamber of Commerce, the case of the East Med may, under certain conditions, provide an alternative source of supply for the European Union, with natural gas from its countries . SE Europe (countries of the Israel-Cyprus-Egypt-Greece axis) alongside the promotion of the Greece-Egypt electrical connection.
In the context of the work of the conference, important personalities with knowledge and experience in energy issues, entrepreneurs, market leaders, bankers, energy experts and analysts should not be present, in order to highlight and present all the geopolitical developments and prospects of the dynamic energy sector in the wider region of SE Europe.
The discussion axes of the conference in the energy industry of the states, inside and outside the borders for the development and construction of the necessary infrastructure for efficient supply, distribution and storage of energy. At the same time, the transition to practice should be accelerated not only for environmental purposes but also for energy independence as soon as possible. Alternative energy sources and the expansion of their potential will also be put on the dialogue table.
THE Nikolaos Bakatselos, President of the Hellenic-American Chamber of Commerce, referring to the Southeast Europe Energy Forum, says: “The Southeast Europe Energy Forum is the leading institutional event for the energy sector. Now in its 6th year, the forum would form the basis for a comprehensive, meaningful and decisive dialogue at the highest level of the academic, business and policy communities in both Europe and the US. This year, it is created at a pivotal point in time, where the energy crisis requires the drawing of a new and alternative road map in the energy landscape, with the priority of ensuring economic stability and growth and social cohesion. Through the work of the Forum there will continue to be many conclusions in a comprehensive effort to solve this ‘Gordian link’ of a crisis with incalculable consequences for society and the economy”.
THE Kostas Andriosopoulos, President of the Energy Committee, of the Hellenic-American Chamber of Commerce, emphasizes: “Heading towards the most difficult and unpredictable energy winter of the last decades, the energy crisis has a broader dialogue not only within each country, but also pan-European. Addressing the energy crisis, as the President of the Commission emphasized, is required in the same market model, both short-term for the energy security of the European Union during this winter, and long-term actions after a broad dialogue process with all actors. , governments and businesses. Therefore, it could not be more timely that the Southeast Europe Energy Forum 2022 be organized by the Hellenic American Chamber and the Hellenic Energy Society (HAEE) on September 9, at the MET Hotel, Thessaloniki. The Forum will host dozens of experts, agencies, executives and academics of the domestic and international energy sector from the USA, Europe and the Southeast Mediterranean, who will give their stamp on a number of topics of immediate interest, such as: The de-addiction of the EU. E. from Russian natural gas, LNG supply, offers in the electricity market, geopolitical ramifications, new investments in practice and many more issues”.
The General Director of the Hellenic-American Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Ilias Spirtounias, states: “The contribution of the Southeast Europe Energy Forum is decisive for the energy exhibitions that take place in the wider region of Southeast Europe, through business and transnational partnerships of strategic importance for the promotion of Greece as a regional energy hub. All these years they have been held with the strategic support of important organizations such as the US Chamber of Commerce and the Atlantic Council, but also with the cooperation of the American Embassy, which is indicated by the presence every year of important government officials and diplomats from neighboring states and the USA as well as and internationally recognized experienced energy analysts. This year, at a time when the global energy environment is in turmoil, SEEF is more necessary than ever.”
