Hellmann raves about Frankfurt’s front runners
Football to touch! CEO Axel Hellmann (51) sometimes rides his mountain bike in shorts to the sports park in Dreieich. The Ultras are not in black like in the Bundesliga, but with their families in the stands. Children screaming in front of the cabin like pop stars.
After the new U21s’ 5:2 win over Friedberg, the fans chanted: “Leaders, hey, hey, hey!” Little Eintracht is the favorite of the Hessenliga. And with now 32 hits, it’s almost impossible to stop.
“As a young player, it’s really cool to play in front of a crowd like this. Nobody else in the Hessenliga has so many fans,” says young professional Marcel Wenig (18), who has scored six times so far.
1300, 1500, most recently 1600. Even former professional Jermaine Jones (40) from California was there. Boss Hellmann likes the “mixture of the scent of grass and bratwurst – real football”.
And one of the professional coaching staff is always watching. Especially the young professionals Mehdi Loune (18) – and little. He has to learn that the 5th league is not child’s play either.
Instead of making it 4:2, he casually lobbed a penalty over the goal. “It’s annoying,” says Little, “but I can collect playing time here and still offer myself upstairs. For me as a young guy, the U21 is a good platform.”
Wednesday (12:00 noon) will be playing for Eintracht’s U19s. At the start of the youth league against Sporting Lisbon.
