Clearer navigation, all in black, is heading to Prague. It’s already on Palmovka
You can compare the new graphic form of the navigation with the existing one
Moving around Prague should soon be clearer and easier. Mainly for people who come to the metropolis. The capital city is installing a completely new navigation system and an entire information system. Knowing your way around, for example, the subway should no longer be a problem for a visitor. The new form of orientation signs can already be seen in Palmovce. And people have the opportunity to comment on its form.
Palmovka will be completely equipped with new signs by the end of the week. But several of them can already be seen in the metro station. They are black with white lettering. But the original ones will be on display alongside them, so that people can see the differences and compare the old and the new version.
It is a pilot project in Palmovce. Passengers will have the opportunity to say if something is missing from the new navigation, or to mention other comments. The poll among the people should be held later this year. The city, the transport company and the regional organizer of Prague integrated transport (ROPID) then evaluate the comments. The authors promise to include public comments in the final form of the navigation system.
New Prague signage
The sign at the subway exits should clearly say where they lead
The future of Masaryka – a building by Zaha Hadid and a new information system
The new system will not only be in the subway, but also above ground
For example, information about when the metro runs should be a novelty. And that’s even before you go down to the station. People should find her in front of the entrance to the vestibule, that is, on the street. In the metro, for example, there should also be display cases with maps of the surroundings and other supplementary navigation signs. Additional information will also be added to the so-called thermometer, i.e. the central sign in the station with a schedule of individual stops.
There will also be an electric sign that will warn of the arrival of connecting traffic when exiting the subway. They already exist somewhere, but in the future they should be everywhere.
The new signs and indicators were designed by graphic studio Side3, architectural studio A69 and typographic studio Superior Type. They won an international graphic design competition. They chose Prague Citizen as their font. The graphics for the subway complement the traditional colors of individual subway lines.
In the future, it will not only be a change in the underground. New orientation indicators will also appear on the surface. They are intended for pedestrians, car drivers, cyclists, as well as public transport passengers. Signs should lead to various types of transport, but also to, for example, Prague monuments or services. Prague wants to complete the entire navigation system around the city in this way.
There will be new information boards in the subway and on the surface
Prague will also have new signposts
In addition to Palmovka, the new system should also appear in Háje metro station and Karlov náměstí. But people also meet them in some streets. The system should start changing completely next year.
It will not be a blanket replacement. It will be gradual and will occur when it is reconstructed. It goes without saying that the new system will also be in completely new stations. Ropid calculates that a complete replacement will take ten to fifteen years. Today’s navigation system is from the last century, so it should be modernized.
Am I on A or B? It should be clear next time
