Peter Hammer is the story of an American artist who fell in love with Toulouse, which he finds “super pretty”. Settled for a few years in the Pink City, he has been sharing his passion with Toulouse residents since 2018: tap danceand especially the American dances in this category.
At Les Pradettes, in Saint-Martin du Touch…
This art, which is very popular in the United States – “the culture of tap dancing is strong in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and New Orleans” – is taught by Peter through the association The Sounds of the Sol. Accompanied by Mimi and Crystal, he gives lessons for beginners and advanced in several places in the city: Tuesday at the Bordeblanche entertainment centerat Les Pradettes (at 12:30 p.m. and in the evening at 8:45 p.m.) and at the multipurpose room of Saint-Martin du Touch, Friday at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. He also gives private lessons, on request, in a room located in the Gloire district (72, rue d’Assalit).
Specializing in a Chicago technique
Peter is no stranger. Professional dancer for musicals in the United States, choreographer, he tries to convert the Pink City to his very particular technique, which he is the only one to dispense in the south of France: Jump Rhythm® technique. “It’s a particular technique that comes from Chicago, which combines jazz and tap dancing”, explains the dancer to Toulouse News.
“There are no barriers! »
Peter Hammer speaks to all audiences – “there are no barriers to learning tap dancing! – and also vise companies and evening events.
With one of his colleagues, he notably made a demonstration during the visit, in Blagnac, of Kristen Grauer, Consul General of the United States in France, to the association of Ancient Wings, on June 30, 2022. An evening organized around the restoration of the McDonnell F-101 Voodoo and placed under the sign of 246e anniversary of the Independence of the United States.
