Index – Inland – A major deficiency was filled with the Budapest-Balaton bicycle route
Government spokeswoman Alexandra Szentkirályi and Máriusz Révész, the State Secretary responsible for active Hungary at the Prime Minister’s Office, the Hungarian government’s official on his Facebook page the fully completed Budapest-Balaton bicycle route was presented in a promotional video.
During the handover at the end of August, the government spokesperson informed that the Hungarian nation has the third largest number of cyclists among the member states of the European Union.
More than HUF 5 billion were spent on the 108.2-kilometer bike path, which can be reached in 2-3 days.
The road section is part of the European cycle path network called EuroVelo 14, which connects Debrecen and Lake Constance.
The state secretary considers the completion of the much-anticipated bicycle route, which connects the capital with the Hungarian sea, to be the biggest attraction of this year.
I think that we have managed to fill an important gap by making it possible to get from Budapest to Lake Balaton comfortably by bicycle.
said the government spokesman.
Alexandra Szentkirályi highlighted:
since 2018, the government has spent HUF 10-12 billion per year exclusively from domestic sources on the development of cycling infrastructure,
in other words, the Budapest-Balaton cycle path is only one, but extremely important element of the many investments.
Máriusz Révész said: they also completed the Tisza lake circuit between Tiszafüred and Poroszló, and also built very important sections where traffic is extremely active, for example the Budapest-Szentendre bicycle route or the Budapest-Dunakeszi bicycle route. The latter was also a missing section, but thanks to the improvements, it is now possible to cycle through Szob all the way to I.
The state secretary also reported that improvements had been made to the bicycle path along the Danube, Eurovelo 6, and that a significant part of the Balaton Bike Ring had also been renovated.
The developments that connect one point of the country with bicycle paths not only help relaxation, but also the involvement of the given region in the tourist circulation
– said Alexandra Szentkirályi.
