Prague decided to relieve residential districts. They will limit the entry of vehicles over 12 tons | Transport | News | Prague Gossip
From next year, a ban on transit in the whole of Prague and a restriction on the entry of vehicles over 12 tons in some areas could apply. The measure concerned mainly busy locations in Prague 5 and Prague 6. According to the city, the construction of part of the ring road has changed the conditions, which will now allow the management of the metropolis to relieve unnecessary traffic.
Prague currently operated according to the old exceptions
According to the deputy for transport, the current system is based on old exemptions and an incomplete circuit. “We want to protect people’s health and lives from emissions and truck noise, and direct heavy transit traffic to backbone roads that lead outside the city’s residential areas. We will, for example, relieve the people of Prague in Prague 6 or in the Holešovice area,” stated in a press release Adam Scheinherr (Prague itself), deputy mayor for transport.
All restrictions are needed
The city plans to limit the entry of trucks, for example, to Evropská, Na Radosti, Rozvadovská spojka streets or to part of Strakonická street. The city management cooperates with the police and the Directorate of Roads and Highways on several variants of measures. Transit is a very complex problem for Prague. It therefore needs to be solved in detail by changing the entire system of passing through Prague. “At the same time, we are simplifying the entire system, making it transparent, and there will be less paperwork, so the Road Administration Office will no longer have to issue an exemption for individual vehicles,” added Scheinherr.
Currently, in Prague, the entry of trucks over 3.5 tons into the historic city center and over 6 tons into the wider center of Prague is restricted.
