VIDEO: Candidates for mayor of Prague clashed in a pre-election debate | Politics | News | Prague Gossip
The completion of the subway, problems in transport, high housing prices, the energy crisis and problems not only in the management of the Prague transport company. These are the biggest issues being addressed in Prague politics before the elections. Not only these topics were discussed by politicians at the pre-election debate of the candidates for mayor of the capital of Prague, organized by the Institute for Politics and Society and attended by Jan Čižinský (Praha sebo), Petr Hlaváček (STAN), Zdeněk Hřib (Pirates), Patrik Nacher (ANO). Bohuslav Svoboda (TOGETHER) and Anna Šabatová (Solidarity).
According to Svoboda, it was not possible to solve transport and housing in the past
“In my opinion, the development company in Prague, the establishment of the rental agency and the Prague Community of Renewable Energy succeeded. And such a climate plan was successful. We definitely want to build on this,” responded to the question of what has been successful in Prague over the past four years, Anna Šabatová.
Bohuslav Svoboda highlighted the construction of a concert hall in Prague. “I think this is a very fundamental thing that has a dream characteristic, because we all know that when the economic situation is bad, it will be difficult to invest. But we have an idea of what it will look like, and I consider that to be an essential thing,” stated Bohuslav Svoboda and he added that, according to him, it was not possible to solve transport and housing during the past four years.

According to Hřiba, Prague is experiencing record development
According to ANO candidate Patrik Nacher, the cooperative housing project was a success. According to him, Prague set an example in matters related to stopping child executions, and among the successes of the capital city over the past four years, Nacher included the Summer of Mercy event. However, he also touched on the topic of transport. “Fairly, I have to say that he wanted the political courage to start the repair of the Barrandovský bridge like this right before the election,” he pointed out Patrik Nacherwho added in one breath that the current coalition is, in his opinion, non-transparent and incompetent.
The current mayor, Zdeněk Hřib, stated that over the past four years, Prague has undergone record development. “Almost ten thousand new apartments were permitted in private construction alone, which is a record since 1989. We started the construction of metro D, tram lines are being extended, city apartments are being repaired at a record pace, and we approved the climate plan,” described Zdenek Hrib.
Hřib sees a weakness, for example, in the lack of greenery in Prague. “Unfortunately, we still haven’t been able to convince you that there is a need for more trees in the city,” mentioned Hřib and added that another problem is that Prague does not have enough powers with regard to Airbnb.

“Adam Scheinherr unleashed a whirlwind of transportation construction,” declared Čižinsky
Petr Hlaváček, candidate of the STAN candidate, devoted to the topic of transport. “I would like to mention the Urban Circle project, which saw a radical change and connected transport, nature and urban planning. I believe that the project modified in this way will be built,” he said Petr Hlavácek. He included the work of the coalition in general among the unsuccessful things. “We resisted the pressure of the opposition a little, we should have been more collegial.”
Jan Čižinský singled out the work of the Prague deputies in particular. “Our deputy Adam Scheinherr (Prague himself) has launched a whirlwind of transport constructions, metro D, tram lines, three bridges are being built, and the fourth is being repaired. It’s something that hasn’t happened here in decades. Our deputy for finance Pavel Vyhnánek (Prague sebo) put together the city’s finances, and our councilor for social affairs Milena Johnová (Prague sebo) changed the way of looking at care for children with difficulties. Prague has stopped letting children with disabilities be taken out of Prague by the dozen,” listed Čižinský and added, according to him, it was not possible to expand secondary schools.
