The famous physicist received his doctorate here in 1906. The document is now on display in a display case in the entrance area of the UZH. The doctoral certificate has traveled around the world, as the UZH announced on Friday.
In 1905, the 26-year-old Einstein submitted his dissertation “A new determination of molecular dimensions” for review. The certificate then found its way to the house at Huttenstrasse 62 in Zurich. Einstein lived there with his first wife.
Document of the University of Zurich was discovered in 1948
A young student from Canton Schwyz discovered them in the attic of the house in 1948. In 2009 the document was sold at an auction in Lucerne. 13 years later it turns up in New York.
The certificate is now returning to the UZH. The acquisition was granted through a donation to the UZH Foundation, as stated in the announcement.
