Zurich Airport share under pressure: flight movements at Zurich Airport remain at a stable level during the holiday season | 09/01/22
In August, practically the same number of planes took off from Switzerland’s largest airport as in July. However, the number of flight movements was still around 14 percent below the pre-corona level.
Zurich Airport registered exactly 21,000 flight movements in August, around 50 more than in the previous month. This emerges from the figures from the airport website evaluated by the AWP news agency. Compared to August 2021, the number of flight movements increased by a good third.
In the pre-Corona year 2019, around 24,500 aircraft took off and landed in Zurich. The gap to the pre-crisis level is 14.3 percent. Overall, the recovery at the airport has stabilized at a relatively high level, as it has been at a similarly high level in recent months. However, the volume of traffic at the beginning of the year was still significantly lower.
The flight movement figures at Zurich Airport are based on statistics updated daily, in which the airport lists all flights that were operated under instrument flight rules. In addition to scheduled flights, this so-called IFR traffic also includes freight, business and private flights. The number of flight movements also says nothing about the size of the aircraft handled or their utilization.
Zurich Airport will publish detailed passenger and traffic figures for July on 12 September.
Zurich Airport shares were temporarily down 4.61 percent in Swiss trading at CHF 157.40.
