On Thursday, September 1, 2022, the newly revitalized building of the Prague secondary school SOŠ – COP and G (Vocational Training Center and Gymnasium) in Českobrodská Street was inaugurated.
As part of a complex reconstruction, which has no period in our territory, the original school building was rebuilt into a smart, safe and sustainable one. In this context, it is a unique project, the result of which is the first energy- and carbon-positive school building in the Czech Republic.
Instead of a significantly energy-inefficient building from the 1970s, the revitalization school was created as an energy- and carbon-plus building that meets the requirements and recommended values for passive buildings.
From a climatic point of view, the buildings have managed to adapt to long-term drought and torrential rainfall thanks to green roofs, a large amount of green areas, accumulation and retention tanks. As part of responsible water management, up to 19 percent of the total consumption of drinking water can be saved thanks to the further use of gray water.
Passive building and smart technology protect classrooms from overheating and cooling demands. Thanks to heat pumps and photovoltaic power plants, it produces more energy than it consumes. The smart technologies used reduce the production of greenhouse gases by up to 205 tons of CO2which represents more than a 104% decrease in emissions.
The investment revitalization of the budget, which was launched in the fall of 2019, amounted to approximately 250 million crowns without VAT, while 98 million crowns were covered by the EU subsidy (Operational Program Prague Pole of Growth), 78 million crowns was the contribution of the City of Prague and 74 million crowns was the contribution high schools.
According to the analysis, the return on the investment is based on 14.5 years. I expect a lifespan of about 50 years, with the fact that over the years it will be necessary to invest in the replacement of some components.
