Dairy cow farmers in Lower Saxony can again apply for premiums for grazing from next year. According to information from Agriculture Minister Barbara Otte-Kinast (CDU) on Thursday in Hanover, the state has secured the appropriate EU funds for the measure. The premium is 75 euros per dairy cow in conventional farming, farmers in organic farming then receive 51 euros per suckler cow. Funding is possible for farms that keep their animals out on the pasture for at least six hours a day from May 16th to September 15th. The premium is intended to compensate for the higher costs for livestock farmers for grazing. Grazing cows means more work because the animals have to be driven out to pasture.
