Back to school: “We continue to recruit contract workers”, assures the rector of the Toulouse academy
Three questions to the rector of the academy of Toulouse Mostafa Fourar, who spoke, Thursday, September 1, on the start of the school year and the fear of parents of students of being deprived of teachers.
Many fears surround this start of the 2022 school year in the schools of the academy and in Toulouse, what about this first day?
At this stage in primary schools, nothing to report, to my knowledge. All teaching positions are filled. On the other hand, obviously as we had announced, we have less than a hundred positions that are not filled in the second degree. We are currently short of 61 positions, but these are on small hourly volumes, this is where we have the most difficulty, and on subjects in tension: technology, mathematics, history-geography, English, sport (EPS ), Spanish… The return to college and high school is spread over several days, we will take stock of the situation on Monday rather next.
How to replace missing subjects for students?
The students will not lose lessons, I want to remind you. Instead, they do other courses. It is up to the headteachers to organize themselves. If a mathematics teacher can receive students, who should normally be in technology class, this is organized, without changing the timetable of the teachers. It is an hourly volume which can, sometimes, be more condensed, spread out. Headteachers know how to juggle professionally, I’m not worried. In any case, the disaster that we were told for this start of the school year did not take place.
Where is the rectorate in recruiting contract workers who are applying to teach this year?
There are always candidates applying. This must be known. Beyond the sixty teachers that we are currently seeking to recruit, we are ready to recruit more. There is, moreover, a competition set up during the next year, following the announcement of the Minister of National Education and Youth Pap Ndiaye. Those who want to take part in this competition can already apply to the rectorate.
