Adam Scheinherr (Prague Self): How important is it to have a geological survey?

POLITICS IN OWN WORDS Deputy Mayor m of Prague behind Prague on his Facebook on August 23 for the excavation of the subway D tunnels
We went with Pavel Vyhnánek and an expert from Dopravní podnik to see how the excavation of the metro D tunnels continues. It is a pleasure to see how the work is progressing nicely. After the fourth year since construction started, we have 300 meters of new tunnels and we have already invested half a billion. Good job and God bless all the miners!
The underground of Prague 4 is increasingly interwoven with future tunnels where, thanks to PRAGUE SOBE, in a few years, modern automatic trains with tens of thousands of people will pass by every day. Again and again, we were convinced how important the geological survey was, which preceded the very start of construction. Prague’s geology is incredibly varied. One is almost amazed.
We have hard shale layers on Pankrác. It must be detonated with dynamite. Just a little further on Olbrachtov, there is another formation of quartz and clay. This very unstable type of rock is gradually “bitten” by the excavator. Miners also use chemical injections and immediately reinforce and concrete the walls. All just a kilometer apart.
Different mining technologies affect the speed of work and, of course, the price. But it’s worth it. Thanks to the geological survey, we know exactly what awaits us underground, and we adapt the work to the surroundings. The subway will not collapse like the Blanka tunnel in Stromovka.
