Prague – The Prague municipality will commission a study to assess the possibility of building the circular metro O. The document will examine the feasibility of the new line, determine its route and the location of the station. At the same time, they will assess the economic side of the construction and the social benefit. The study will cost about 30 million crowns, the contract for its creation will be issued by the city in the fall, and it should be ready in about 36 months. Deputy Adam Scheinherr (Praha Sobě) told journalists today.
According to him, the costs of the circular line cannot be estimated now, it will depend, among other things, on the technologies used. The transport company (DPP) is now building a new metro route D from Pankrác to Písnice.
“Today, the expert group approved the final terms of reference for the study, which will now go to the (city) council, and we also approved the terms of reference for the feasibility study. The ring connection has relieved the most congested sections of the subway,” Scheinherr said.
According to the square, the study will check the feasibility of the construction, its suitable route and the location of the station. It will also assess the technical feasibility, recommend the choice of metro system, which means, among other things, whether it will be driverless. The city’s experts will also provide a technical and socio-economic model.
The document will have three parts, namely analytical, design and evaluation reading. The last one will contain and evaluate individual construction variants, determine when and which part to start building first. Experts will also work with the tram network in the material and include the planned construction of high-speed lines.
According to earlier statements by city representatives, the new line should lead from Nádraží Podbaba through Dejvice, Smíchov, Dvorce, Budějovická, Vršovice, Žižkov, Vysočany, Čakovice and then north back to Podbaba in the second phase. According to the initial proposal, the line would measure about 36 kilometers and have 23 stations, the first part between Podbaba and Čakovice would be 26 kilometers long with 18 stations.
In the future, its most important sections should include, for example, the section from the Vltava to Krč, where up to 140,000 passengers could use it per day, another is the area of the freight station in Žižkov and also the north of the city, where around 100,000 people would ride it. The section in the west would probably be built last, from Anděl to Strahov and to Podbaba.
In the second half of April this year, DPP started the construction of the section from Pankrác to Olbrachtová street, which will be followed by the section to Nové Dvory. The section from Nové Dvory to Depo Písnice will be the last to be built. The total costs should tentatively be 52.09 billion crowns when inflation is taken into account.
