Mountaineer died in a fatal accident in Salzburg’s Pinzgau

Fusch an der Glocknerstrasse/Bruck an der Glocknerstrasse/Taxenbach. In Salzburg’s Pinzgau, a 63-year-old mountaineer fell fatally on a tour of the Achenkopf (2,260 meters) on Tuesday. Because the locals had not come home in the evening, relatives informed the emergency services. In the course of a search operation, the missing person was found in the area of the summit ridge on Wednesday night. For the man, however, any help came too late. He must have been dead instantly.
After the weather conditions on Wednesday did not allow an aerial rescue, the body was brought down to the valley by a police helicopter on Thursday. As the Salzburg Mountain Rescue Service reported in a broadcast, the search area extended to the “Heubergalm” south of the Salzach Valley and to the area around the peaks of the “Three Brothers” and the Achenkopf.
“We first checked all the summit book entries without finding anything,” said Paul Hasenauer, head of operations and local authority, from the Fusch mountain rescue service. “Only when we evaluated the GPS data of the missing person’s mobile phone via ‘findmyphone’ were we able to trace the exact course of his tour.” Search parties then initially reported the discovery of alpine sticks in the area of the summit ridge, and a mountain rescuer finally discovered the fallen man. In total, more than 40 mountain rescuers, alpine police officers, dog handlers and firefighters were on duty.
