A ceremony that the families wanted”sober and spiritual”. “It will be conducted jointly by Fathers Payen and Grillon“, said the relatives. Iris and Warren will then be buried in the old cemetery of Loyasse in the strictest privacy.
Iris and Warren, aged 15 and 17, died on the Quai Maréchal Joffre located on the banks of the Saône. This late afternoon, the two lovers were traveling on the same electric scooter in the lane reserved for buses and two-wheelers, when they were knocked down by a private ambulance. The girl was killed instantly, the young man died at the scene of the accident shortly after the collision. The emergency services which intervened quickly could not do anything. This dramatic accident enhanced a strong emotion in Lyon.
The ambulance driver was charged with manslaughter and placed under judicial supervision pending the conclusions of the investigation.
The girl was going to join the Jean Moulin high school, in second class. His young companion had passed his baccalaureate. Five days after the events, a white march gathered more than 500 people in Lyon.
Leaving from Place Bellecour, a procession joined the scene of the drama in silence, accompanied by the favorite songs of two teenagers. Friends, relatives and many anonymous people dressed in white came to support the parents of the two victims, overcome by grief but present in the procession. Some sported photos of the smiling young couple.
Arrived in front of the scene of the accident where candles, flowers and photos of Iris and Warren have been deposited since the accident, teenagers burst into tears. The participants in this silent tribute also symbolically placed irises on the spot. A dignified ceremony that ended with the release of white balloons.
A meeting between the prefecture, the town hall and the Metropolis of Lyon concerning road safety had been planned for a few weeks. In a message posted on twitter, the Rhône prefecture had notably confirmed its outfit in the days following the fatal accident at the Quai Maréchal Joffre.
Chance of the calendar, this meeting must take place the same day as the funeral of the two teenagers. It should also be a question of the development of the road network on the scene of the accident, pointed out for its dangerousness by the residents.
