Prague – Artistic colleagues, friends and other invited guests met today in the church of St. Tomáš said goodbye to singer Hana Zagorová, who died at the age of 75 last Friday, in Prague’s Malá Strana. At the request of the deceased, the funeral mass was held only for a closed circle of people. The public will be able to say goodbye to the popular singer, whose career spanned several decades, on Wednesday at the Kalich Theater in Prague.
Around noon today, well-known people from show business, led by the singer’s husband Štefan Margita, came to the church. Other opera singers Adam Plachetka or Eva Urbanová or violinist Pavel Šporcl also came. Other musicians included Ondřej Brzobohatý or Vašo Patejdl. Actress Dagmar Havlová or fashion designer Blanka Matragi appeared with a large bouquet. She told the journalists that she will always remember Zagorová as a person who personally never complained about difficulties and, on the contrary, was able to be a support to others.
Lyricist Michal Horáček stated that Zagorová was part of the life of many generations. “She loved living the day it was. He had a respect for life and a love for it,” he said. Apart from the song he wrote for her together with the composer Petr Hapka, he will be most remembered for her song Mys dobrých nadějí. “It’s about her, come with her,” he said.
In the area around the church, before the mass, Zagorova songs were heard, on the busy street with tram traffic, people looked on and watched the arrival of the guests, some even looked from the windows. A large portrait of the singer was also right next to the church.
The singer was accompanied by health problems for a long time. Her condition began to deteriorate after she contracted the very severe coronavirus in September 2020. Due to fatigue and weakening of the organism, she canceled her work commitments since last August.
During her work, Hana Zagorová sang almost 900 songs, she worked in several ensembles at the Apollo and Semafor theaters. Already from the second half of the 60s of the 20th century, she belonged to the most prominent figures of the domestic pop scene. She made a name for herself not only with her distinctive voice, but also as a lyricist, actress and presenter. She released her last studio solo album, Já nemá strach, in 2018. Two years later, Zagorová and Margita recorded the album Konečné together.
