Shock loss for Mørk and Esbjerg:
Esbjerg – Ajax Copenhagen 15-19 (12-13)
Esbjerg opens the league season with a bang as the star gallery of Jesper Jensen lost 15-19 to Ajax Copenhagen at home,
The Norwegian national team profiles Nora Mørk, Marit Røsberg Jacobsen and Vilde Mortensen Ingstad were part of the humiliating wallpaper, but Esbjerg was without both Henny Ella Reistad and Kristine Breistøl.
The result – in which Esbjerg scored only three goals (!) after the break – sent shock waves through Danish handball.
– I just have to say that I am completely in shock. If someone had called and said that, I wouldn’t have believed them if I hadn’t put it first. For me, it is the biggest sensation in the women’s league in many years, says Bent Nyegaard, handball expert in Danish TV 2.
Ajax Copenhagen was tipped to finish last before the season.
In the local newspaper West Coast of Jutland characterized the defeat as a “completely scandalous” performance and that Esbjerg delivered the worst performance in time immemorial.
– You have almost never seen worse. It was no fighting spirit, imagination or quality. Esbjerg deservedly lost the league premiership with four goals, writes West Coast of Jutland after Esbjerg’s shock loss.
Nora Mørk, who played big in the super cup for Esbjerg before the start of the season, scored four goals in one attempt on Tuesday evening and had no technical errors.
Esbjerg coach Jesper Jensen gives the team a beating after the match.
– We played a terrible game and we did not get off to a good start. We had ten minutes in the first half at an okay level, says Jensen Danish TV 2.
In addition to Reistad and Breistøl, Mette Tranborg was missing for Esbjerg.
– One of the explanations is of course that we have three national team players out. Therefore it was a bit thin. There are also several new constellations that are not yet fully seated. That’s fair enough. The energy was okay, but it lacked quality, says Jesper Jensen.
Marit Røsberg Jacobsen was the top scorer for Esbjerg with five goals.
