Reading in the Literaturhaus Hannover
Three sisters lost their mother at the age of 65 to suicide. How was it for the siblings to live with their depression as a child? Miku Sophie Kühmel tells about this in her new novel “Triskele”. On September 8th she will read from it in the Literaturhaus Hannover.
Hanover. In the beginning is the end. The new novel “Triskele” by Miku Sophie Kühmel begins with the death of the mother, more precisely: her certificate of inheritance. Simone Zinnober, called Mone, took her own life after a life that was repeatedly marked by depression. She turned 65 years old. After years in which the contact between their three daughters was largely limited to writing birthday cards, the sisters come together in the small town of Arendsee in Saxony-Anhalt to clear up the household and distribute what remains of memorabilia. Why does a life marked by living with depression end in suicide after so many years lived? It’s one of the great strengths of the novel that while it’s the question that opens the book, don’t die at the end that’s at the heart of it.
