Demonstrations – Frankfurt (Oder) – Left boss calls for pressure to relieve inflation – politics
Frankfurt (Oder) (dpa) – Left leader Janine Wissler has called on citizens to use demonstrations to build pressure for more relief from high energy and living costs. The voices of people with small pensions, low wages or Hartz IV are not heard enough, Wissler said at a rally in Frankfurt an der Oder on Tuesday.
“In one of the richest economies in the world, we must not accept that people live in poverty and do not know whether they can still heat their homes in winter.” Wissler revised the demands to continue the 9-euro ticket and excessive profits to tax companies more heavily in the crisis. “It can’t be that the consumers foot the bill,” she said.
Die Linke has announced a “hot autumn” with protests against the federal government’s energy and social policies across Germany. According to the police, around 220 people came to the demonstration in Frankfurt an der Oder at the beginning. A party spokesman estimated the number of participants at 300. For the first time, the party’s federal chairman took part in such a demonstration as a guest speaker. A first “Monday demonstration” is planned for September 5 in Leipzig.
