An attempt at a record: Prague 14 wants to gather the largest choir of senior citizens
The fourteenth city district in the east of the metropolis is heading towards a Czech record. As part of the Day not only for seniors event, which will take place on Sunday, September 4 in the leisure center Plechárna, the ambition is to gather the largest choir of seniors. The 1st deputy mayor of Prague 14, Zuzana Jelenová (STAN), who is in charge of culture in the district, informed about it.
“It will be a one-time thing. The goal is to get as many seniors as possible to sing two songs together. Given that no one has ever attempted something like this in the Czech Republic, we will certainly achieve the record, but it depends on how convincing the result is. I hope that as many people as possible will come to the meeting. They certainly don’t have to be only from Prague 14. We cordially invite all seniors. I believe that they will not leave us in this,” said Jelenová.
The author of the idea to organize a senior choir, as well as the idea of organizing the event, is Prague 14 councilor Jan Liška (STAN). At the town hall, he supervises the implementation of the international program local Agenda 21 (MA21), in which Prague 14 has been involved since 2009. The primary goal of MA21 is to support sustainable development and public participation in local events.
“The event Day not only for seniors is one of the activities of the program. This year we are holding it for the first time. I believe that it will be successful and that we will make both those born earlier and their families happy,” said councilor Liška.
The attempt to enter the Czech Book of Records is scheduled for 16:30 (Plechárna Černý Most, Bryksova 1002/20). The seniors will sing the compositions Once we will be together and Ta naše písnička česká.
“They will also receive commemorative certificates. Those who wish will be able to use the services of make-up artists and hair stylists. The entire Day not only for seniors event will start at 2 p.m. and end at 7 p.m.,” explained councilor Liška.
In addition to the above-mentioned activities, visitors can enjoy a culinary show with Jiří Babica or a concert by the Waldemar Matuška revival band. Food and drink offers will be available to visitors, as well as tastings of small breweries. The younger generation will be able to enjoy face painting or demonstrations of “tin” activities such as freestyle skating.
An important part of the event will be the distribution of the so-called senior envelope – a plastic envelope intended to be attached to the refrigerator, which contains forms to be filled out, either by the senior himself, his relatives or general practitioners.
“The envelope with data on the health status of the elderly person, for example with information about diseases, allergies, medications used, etc., is very useful especially for rescue workers and police officers. If they interfere with a senior citizen who, for various reasons, needs to provide the necessary information, the envelope can play a vital role in the fight for his life. The project of the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs of the Czech Republic has been running for some time, and now Prague 14 is also involved in it,” added councilor Liška.
