German Chancellor Olaf Scholz also mentioned this new group in Prague on Monday. Scholz said he supports Macron’s idea of creating a “European political community”.
In this new forum, we will “discuss once or twice a year key topics concerning our continent in its entirety – security, energy, climate and connectivity,” Scholz said.
Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala (ODS) will receive the chancellor in Prague on Wednesday, and they will talk mainly about the energy crisis. Scholz adds a European dimension to the new forum during his lecture in Karolin.
Macron already spoke about the project of the “European political community” and its completion “in a shorter time frame” in May, i.e. during the French presidency of the European Union. This community was meant to be a group that would provide answers to problems “in security and defence, energy and infrastructure”.
The head of the Brussels office of the Europeum Institute, Žiga Faktor, said in an interview regarding the Czech presidency of the union in July that the first major political milestone of this presidency will be the informal summit of 27 member countries in Prague at the beginning of October. He said at the time that the program would include the first meeting of the European political community proposed by Macron.
