Prague – The main meeting day of the informal meeting of the ministers of defense of the member countries of the European Union will begin in Prague today. Politicians will discuss Russian aggression in Ukraine, the consequences of the war or aid to the attacked country. They will also talk about the future of the European Union’s training mission in Mali.
The Ministers of Defense arrived in Prague on Monday, when an informal welcome was expected in the Míčovna of the Prague Castle. The main part of the meeting is scheduled for this morning and afternoon. The war in Ukraine and its impact on the security of the EU member states will be a key theme that will permeate the entire meeting. The ministers will also discuss the consequences of Russian activities in Africa. In this context, they will discuss the future training missions of the European Union in Mali and other EU involvement in the region.
Furthermore, the ministers will discuss shortcomings in the EU’s investments in defense and, at the last point of the meeting, they will discuss possible support for Ukraine. Oleksiy Reznikov of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense will participate in this discussion remotely. One could talk about the creation of an EU training mission for the Ukrainian army, which was mentioned last week by the head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borell.
