Denmark expands energy to 3 GW, connects in Germany
For comparison, it is currently connected to 2.3 GW of offshore wind in Denmark.
At the same time, the country has entered into a political agreement with Germany on the establishment of a cable from Bornholm to Germany.
– With the expansion of Energiøy Bornholm and the connection to Germany, we are increasing the expansion of renewable energy. It is crucial for the climate, but also absolutely crucial for Europe’s energy dependence on Russia, says climate and energy minister Dan Jørgensen (S) in a press release.
Both Germany and Denmark must contribute to cover the infrastructure costs linked to the cable.
– The Danish-German cooperation is a flagship project. The green electricity from Energiøy Bornholm will supplement national electricity production and reduce our dependence on imported fossil energy, says Germany’s Minister of Economy and Climate Robert Habeck in the report.
On the basis of the political agreement, the Danish TSO Energinet and the German TSO 50Hertz must now enter into an agreement on the specific design of the agreement’s content, the press release states.
It is expected that the tender framework for the sea window construction around Bornholm will be determined before the end of 2022, and the offshore wind turbines must be located between 15 and 45 kilometers off the coast of the eye.
The cable to Zealand will be 245 kilometers long, while the directly announced German cable connection will be around 470 kilometers.
