Air traffic – Frankfurt am Main – Lufthansa: Stricter mask requirement is a competitive disadvantage – economy
Frankfurt/Main (dpa) – Lufthansa sees itself as having a significant economic stake in the planned tightening of the mask requirement in aircraft. “Passengers who have the choice of flying for several hours with or without a mask most often choose the more comfortable option,” the company wrote in its policy letter published on Monday. In principle, the mask requirement applies to all flights to and from Germany. However, it is an open secret that airlines from countries in which there is no mask requirement hardly implement the regulation.
The federal government has decided to make it mandatory to wear FFP2 masks on long-distance trains and airplanes in future to protect against corona. So far, the lighter medical masks have also been allowed. Lufthansa refers to the different practice in many other countries, where masks are no longer compulsory. The German special route also represents a significant burden for the crews who are supposed to ensure enforcement. Lufthansa has been instructing staff for months to draw attention to the obligation to wear masks, but to refrain from escalations. The bill was in urgent need of revision.
