On the eve of Independence Day, the president of the Republic of Moldova sent a message of gratitude to the citizens. Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, “the deeds of the Moldovans have shown that we are a big, small country with a heart”, says the head of state. “From the first day, the people of Moldova rejected the evil of war and opened their homes and hearts wide for the children, women and elderly of Ukraine, who were fleeing from the path of destruction and death.”
More than 500,000 Ukrainian refugees have crossed the border with the Republic of Moldova, and around 90,000 are still in our country today.
The Head of State mentions that, in this way, we demonstrated to ourselves and the whole world, through an admirable solidarity, that we are ready to help those who need it more than us. Also, Maia Sandu claims in her message that the deeds of the Moldovans have shown that we are a small country with a big heart.
