Stylish for one. Where in (not only) Prague for beer and nice design?
Classics like Pilsen or Kozel or beer from craft breweries. At these places, you can view the environment from a stand or sit in a stylish one – for example, in a former cable house or gatehouse.
Counter, V Celnici 4, Prague 1
It all started in the popular Locals of the Ambiente gastro group. The local taprooms devoted themselves to beer with such love and care that they wanted their own space just for the draft beer. And so now, in the center of Prague, the master tapman will give you a choice of six Czech lagers, selected by the tasting board.
Experiment and rotate the beers or choose your favorite. The counter serves Prazdroj, Budvar, Libertas, Dva kohuty, Proud and Matuska. Olgoj Chorchoj is responsible for the stylish interior and especially the beautiful bar.
Víčep, Korunní 92, Prague 2
This is a modern Czech bar. They tap beer from Dalešice and serve food from Czech cuisine under the leadership of Jirka Hrachový and his partner Vojta Nemrava. The fresh interior comes from Mar.s Architects. They shot the first pints here in 2018, and since then the popularity of this place has continued to grow. Try, for example, the smoking rabbit aka semi-dark 12.
Kabelovna pub, Dělnická 27, Prague 7
In the middle of old Holešovice, you will find a modern business whose proud owners are Ben Cristovao, Lukáš Rychtařík and Aleš Petr. They cook great vegan food and also have beer from craft breweries.
You’ll find that you’ll enjoy this combination – including a cool interior and a pleasant backyard. Here, the taste buds of not only beer lovers will be satisfied, but also vegetable snacks such as ribs, drowned or pickled cheeses.
U Rárášků, Mikulandská 7, Prague 1
At the end of the 1970s, actors, painters and filmmakers used to hang out in the legendary wine bar near Rarášků, and above all, they didn’t even mind the presence of the police, who had their own table. Pilsen and Kozla are on tap in the reconstructed Schönkirch Palace, but they also offer wines or rums. The garden in the yard is shared with the Italian L’Osteria.
Location at Jirát, Vodičkova 26, Prague 1
The youngest member of the Lokál family continued the tradition of innkeeper Josef Jirát, who in 1887 rented the premises of the corner house and offered regulars excellent pilsner from the town brewery straight from the tap.
Carefully secured beer will be served here straight from the tap to the street. Or sit down and enjoy a beer with onion bratwurst, fryer, tartare or carp peppers.
Vratnice, Thámova 7, Prague 8
Are you into craft beer? Then definitely go to the original space in Karlín. The original gatehouse has become a place that offers ten types of artisans from small breweries, cold appetizers such as drownings, pickled ermine or a lot of spreads – try the belly, for example. If you are not a beer drinker, have coffee from Café Francin or great lemonades.
Two extra travel tips
Pub, Liberec
The inspiration from the Prague business is quite obvious here – the same name and a very similar interior from the Mimosa studio. There is also a dominant bar or green walls here. You can find it in an art nouveau building just behind the Liberec town hall. Craft brewery Kousek piva on tap.
Trautenberk Brewery, Malá Úpa
The beer here is brewed five meters underground in the old cellar of the former Tippelt shed in Malá Úpa. The successful reconstruction by the ADR studio has become a finalist for the Czech Architecture Prize 2018. You can find the cottage as far as the Polish border, and the beer will taste best after a good hike.
