The Musical Takeoff continues in the rhythm of jazz
30/8/2022
The Musical Takeoff concert series in Prague’s multifunctional space Vzlet continues on August 30 with a double concert to the rhythm of jazz.
American singer Allison Wheeler with the Winterspring project and Tomáš Jochmann Trio with the Tribute to Barry Harris program will perform.
Jazz singer, educator, and composer from Monterey, California, Allison Wheeler is a versatile artist with a strong focus on improvisation. She completed jazz studies at the University of Northern Colorado and won the prestigious DownBeat magazine’s College Vocalist of the Year 2018 award. Allison has already had the honor of performing alongside such stars as New York Voices, Aubrey Logan or Vertical Voices.
In July of this year, she released her debut album Winterspring on the British label Ubuntu Music. Her music seamlessly crosses genre boundaries and draws inspiration from the likes of Regina Spektor, Norma Winstone, Fiona Apple, Aoife O’Donovan and more. In Vzlet, pianist Daniel Bulatkin and the accompanying band will also perform with Wheeler.
The new project of one of the most sought-after Czech pianists, Tomáš Jochmann, Tribute to Barry Harris, is a tribute to the recently deceased world legend Barry Harris. As one of Barry’s older students, Tomáš was in touch with the king of bebop piano until his last moments. With the Tribute to Barry Harris project, pianist and producer Jochmann wants to continue his mentor’s legacy in the form of jazz playing with an extraordinary emphasis on rich harmonic-melodic expression.
