Prague and Brno are among the safest – eXtra.cz
The most dangerous cities in the world are Caracas in Venezuela and Pretoria in South Africa. According to a survey carried out by the Numbeo portal, cities from South and North America and Africa were placed in the top 100 of the ranking. On the contrary, Europe is doing the best, with Prague being one of the safest and Brno being close behind.
According to the portal Numbeo is the highest crime rate in cities in Latin and North America and Africa. The information is based on pof reason among the public, on the basis of which the ranking of the cities with the highest crime rate and, conversely, the ones that are the safest came into being. As expected, Europe is doing the best, but Asian countries have also found the front ranks.
The so-called crime index is an estimate of the overall level of crime in a given city or country. A crime level below 20 is rated as very low, crime between 20 and 40 as low, between 40 and 60 as medium, between 60 and 80 as high, and finally an index that exceeds 80 is considered very high.
A dangerous England surprised
Seven cities exceeded the alarming figure of 80. Caracas (Venezuela) received the highest crime index, namely 83.98 points. Right behind is Pretoria (South Africa) with 81.98 points. involved Celaya (Mexico), San Pedro Sula (Honduras), Port Moresby (Papua New Guinea), Durban (South Africa) and Johannesburg (South Africa).
Afghanistan’s Kabul, which recently experienced a coup, took eighth place, and the unflattering ninth place belongs to tourist favorite Rio de Janeiro (Brazil). Another Brazilian city, Natal, closes the top ten. Among European cities, Coventry, England, ranked highest in the crime index at 38th place with 68.35 points.
Czech cities are doing well
On the other hand, the portal also published a ranking according to the safety index, which is completely opposite to the crime index. If a city has a high safety index, it is very safe. For many, the city may be ahead of Dubai (UAE) as the world’s safest with 88.33 points. Right behind it is Qatar’s Doha with 86.04 points and in third place is Spain’s San Sebastian with an index of 85.14. Fourth place goes to exotic Taipei (Taiwan) and fifth to Canadian Quebec.
As for Czech cities, the portal lists only two. One is Prague, which is ranked 40th worldwide with 75.90 points and 22nd in Europe, while Brno is right behind with 73.90 points. This earned it the 52nd place among the world competition and the 27th place among the European ones. Both cities left behind famous European capitals such as Vienna, Madrid, Amsterdam or Geneva. Bratislava, for example, ranked 84th with 70.11 points.
The most peaceful country
At the same time, the Czech Republic belongs to the most peace-loving countries in the world, it is eighth among 163 evaluated countries. This follows from the World Peace Index (GPI), which he published British Institute for Economy and Peace (IEP). The Czechia, which regularly ranks among the winners in this review, was ranked ninth last year. Iceland remains the most peaceful country, Afghanistan is again at the opposite end of the ranking.
After Iceland, New Zealand, Ireland, Denmark and Austria occupy the highest places. In addition to Afghanistan, Yemen, Syria, Russia and South Sudan are right at the tail end. The most peaceful region remains Europe, which has seven representatives among the first ten countries.
