Energy crisis: How does Prague and its companies want to solve it?
According to Mana, they have PSAS for gas supplies framework contract with Pražská plynárenská, the company’s prices are fixed for several more years. It has a framework contract for electricity with Pražská energetika (PRE), but this contract is valid until the end of this year. “We are currently negotiating a price for 2023,” stated Mana.
Due to the current energy crisis, the company is trying to gain independence from central supply. “That’s why we decide establishment of photovoltaic power plants on buildings owned by the company. At the moment, we are dealing with the registration of projects in subsidy programs,” said Mana. According to him, it is not yet possible to say when and on which buildings the solar panels could appear, because the project is now only at the very beginning.
DPP always secures electricity for the upcoming period ahead of time. “After individual tranches in the form of ongoing purchases in smaller volumes according to price developments on the Prague Energy Exchange. We proceeded in the same way last year to secure the expected volume of electricity for this year,” said company spokeswoman Aneta Řehková. For next year, the company has secured four-fifths of the energy volume, while in the case of electricity, it lacks only about 19 percent of the volume for the following year.
The effects of increased costs due to rising energy and fuel prices will management of the company to solve with the city as a shareholder. The decision on the possible form and amount of the so-called compensation, i.e. the money that the DPP receives from the city annually, will be fully up to the Prague management. “The pricing policy of the tariff (fare price) is not in the hands of the DPP. In terms of operations, the company operates routes according to the orders of Ropid, i.e. the city,” added Řehková.
Increase in deposits
The municipality itself is also dealing with the energy crisis. Mayor Zdeněk Hřib (Pirates) said on Friday that advances to schools and kindergartens will increase this year by a total of half a billion crowns. Prague has already prepared a package to help citizens in crisis. In the case of his companies or charitable organizations, he is said to be waiting for the government’s next steps. The representatives of the city already stated last week that in the future the official buildings of the municipality could be heated by heat pumps that obtain heat from the Vltava water. The city wants to issue a tender for the water feeder by the end of this year, and in the first half of the next construction project it was completed. The new technology could bring significant savings in heating.
