John Malkovich will present the world premiere of the play The Infamous Ramirez Hoffman | Film and TV News (Jason Pirodsky)
Oscar-nominated actor John Malkovich apparently liked the Czech Republic. After appearing on stage in Kroměříž in the summer, the actor will come to Prague later this year to present the world premiere of his latest play, The Infamous Ramirez Hoffman.
In July, Malkovich presented his one-man show The Music Critic in the gardens of the Kroměříž castle to great acclaim. According to castle officials, the actor’s performance was “the highlight of the season.”
The musical critique has previously been performed at venues around the world, but on November 11, Malkovich will return to the Czech Republic for the world premiere of his latest production.
Few details have been released about the Prague production of The Infamous Ramirez Hoffman, but it looks like it will be another one-man show starring Malkovich. Anastasia Terenková takes care of the accompanying musical arrangements.
Malkovich and Terenková Zráva had previously collaborated on a theater performance about the blind.
The infamous Ramirez Hoffman is based on the work of Chilean writer Roberto Bolaño. The play’s title is taken from the final chapters of Bolaño’s 1996 novel Nazi Literature in America, which was expanded upon in the novella Distant Star.
In both volumes, an anonymous narrator tells the fictional story of Ramirez Hoffman: a right-wing writer who uses the cover of the 1973 Chilean coup d’état to launch a multimedia poetry venture that includes skywriting, torture, and murder.
On November 11th, the stage version of Infamous by Ramirez Hoffman with John Malkovich in the lead role will have its world premiere at the Congress Center Prague.
The Infamous Ramirez Hoffman will be staged in English, probably with Czech subtitles. Tickets for the show are already on sale at Ticketportal and their price ranges from 1490-2990 crowns.
In addition to the performance in Kroměříž in July and the upcoming performance in Prague, John Malkovich has already visited the Czech Republic several times.
In 2011, the actor performed with Hell’s Comedy on the stage of the Prague Spring music festival. During this trip, his hotel room in the city center was robbed and the actor lost several thousand crowns in cash and had to get new documents issued. Fortunately, he doesn’t seem to hold a grudge against the city.
Two years earlier, Malkovich was awarded the Crystal Globe at the International Film Festival in Karlovy Vary for his outstanding contribution to world cinema.
Malkovich also starred in the 2017 thriller Unlocked, which was largely filmed in Prague, and the 1999 film The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc, which was filmed on location throughout the Czech Republic.
