Nearly 9,000 requests processed in six weeks in Caen and Mondeville
From mid-June to July 31, two temporary centers for processing national identity cards and passports were set up in Caen and Mondeville. Their mission was to help deal with the delays in processing files in Calvados due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
In six weeks, these two centers were able to respond to nearly 6,000 requests. If we add to this the 3,000 files processed at the same time by the civil status services of the two municipalities, Caen and Mondeville have in total responded to nearly 9,000 requests in six weeks.
“The prefect of Calvados had mobilized the city of Caen, Hérouville and Mondeville on this device to absorb these delaysrecalls Nicolas Gosselin, the director general of the services of the Town Hall of Mondeville. We are not used to working on these rhythms of crisis. We have proven that we are capable of doing it. In ten days, the center was open with six workstations and emergency trained contractors. And that made it possible to meet the demand. “
The appointments offered online quickly found contractors among users. “From the end of June on the temporary center of Caen, there was no longer an appointment available or very little, relates Valérie Téti-Crépas, head of the citizenship service at the mayor of Caen . This made it possible to double the appointments and requests for titles in Caen. Parisians have come here because they couldn’t find a meeting place in the Paris region.”
In July, the temporary processing center in Caen thus honored 1,693 appointments, which were added to the 1,086 files processed by the municipality. And on the temporary center of Mondeville, the demand far exceeded what the city handles over an entire year.
“Usually, we are at 60-70 titles per week in Mondeville. There we arrive at 4000 identity cards and passports in six weeks, points out Nicolas Gosselin. We had to act quickly because there were very long waiting times of around four months for appointments. We have now managed to reduce this period to six weeks.
