Municipal elections Prague 2022: How the parties solve the traffic situation
The first part was devoted to rising apartment prices and unaffordable housing. In the second part, we solve the current traffic situation in Prague with them.
Municipal elections are being held on September 23 and 24, 2022. We have prepared a number of articles in which we present the views of political parties and movements on topics of interest to our readers. This time we asked the leaders how they assess the current traffic situation in Prague and what they would change or improve.
A question was sent to all leaders and leaders:
How do you deal with the traffic situation in Prague? How do you assess the current situation and what would you change/improve?
Solidarity (Anna Šabatová): We will develop ecological city logistics and improve conditions for pedestrians and people on bicycles
We will focus mainly on the development of public transport, the completion of metro D, the creation of new tram routes and the improvement of conditions for pedestrians and people on bicycles. In residential parts of the city, we will use dialogue with citizens to calm traffic by reducing the maximum speed to 30 km/h. This significantly reduces the number of accidents and creates more pleasant conditions for life. We will also develop ecological city-logistics, which make up a large part of the traffic in the center, following the example of other European cities.
Prague to itself (Jan Čižinský): We are doing well with transport in Prague, we are building three new tram lines and a new metro line D
Transport must be for everyone – cars, pedestrians, people in public transport, cyclists… We are not enemies of cars, we just say that the building of the city must not be guided only by cars. We have to combine everything with, for example, the needs of seniors who use public transport a lot, or mothers with prams and children. And also young people who make a lot of use of the new shared means of transport. By the way, the vast majority of transport in the city takes place on public transport or on foot.
And we’re also not afraid to do things that are unpopular. Maybe repairing the Barrand bridge. Everyone discouraged us from this reconstruction of the century. But, like our predecessors, we will not cowardly risk that a disaster will happen and most will fall. By the way, we are catching up on the 30 billion debt left by our predecessors here on repairs to the transport infrastructure.
In addition, after more than ten years, we are building three new tram lines, the new metro line D, which should have been in operation for twenty years, we are building new bridges and repairing the old ones. The fact that the transport chapters in the election programs of our competitors basically coincide with ours also proves that we are doing well with transport in Prague. But the difference is that they have already promised the people of Prague several times, while we are already doing it.
