Intense bad weather in Greece – Lightning killed a flock of 50 sheep (vid)
Heavy rains hit many major cities in Greece today, confirming the forecasts of meteorologists for the advance of bad weather.
A strong storm, with lightning and thunder, hit Thessaloniki on Tuesday afternoon, while hail also fell. The intense phenomena did not last long, however, roads in Eastern Thessaloniki turned into rivers, making it difficult for cars to move.
The Fire Service received calls for pumping water and cutting trees in areas of Central and Western Macedonia.
The bad weather and heavy downpour did not leave the Cemeteries of Agia Triados and Agios Stefanos Ptolemais unscathed either. According to e-ptolemeos.gr, huge amounts of water covered the tombs, but also all the corridors of the huge space.
After yesterday’s storm, the skies opened again in Lamia, with heavy rains with dozens of lightning. From the first minutes the roads were flooded, while according to lamiareport.gr, wells were “shaken” by the pressure of the water.
A wave of bad weather also swept the prefecture of Ilia, with rains and storms appearing in the mountainous and semi-mountainous regions of the prefecture.
Due to the heavy rainfall earlier today, according to ERT, a landslide occurred in three places of the old national road of Pountas – Kalavryton, as well as on the line of the cog railway.
The lightning that struck late Tuesday afternoon killed the herd of sheep of a breeder in Metsovo. According to information from epiruspost.gr, the herd was in the “Vlacha” location when the summer storm began. The lightning that struck killed about fifty of the sheep.
