Police remove two drunk wheelchair users from traffic | Antwerp
AntwerpThe Antwerp police took two drunken sixties, two of whom were in an electric wheelchair, out of traffic this weekend. The wheelchair was not designed to carry two people. They take a taxi home.
The duo was taken to the Quays by a police team. The two drove against the direction of travel on a busy road. The driver posted a positive breath test but his passenger was also found to have one. After police mediation, a sober friend was summoned to drive the wheelchair home, while the drunk duo took a taxi.
The Berchem district team played this weekend. It sucks if the driver didn’t have his car completely under control. It soon became clear why, the driver was barely 16 years old and of course did not have a valid driver’s license. He had secretly used a family member’s account to drive the shared car. A police report was drawn up and the minor returned home in the back seat of a combi.
In Ekeren, a man in his thirties drove into a concrete wall while drunk. When the police arrived, the officers arrived asleep at the wheel, his car was against a concrete wall. The driver had a hard time standing on his feet and admitted coming straight out of the cafe. The man’s driver’s license was revoked and he himself was allowed to sleep off his intoxication in a police cell. The car, which was blocking the road, was towed.
