Darmstadt 98 wins at HSV – Magdeburg is defeated by Hanover
Hamburg. Hamburger SV suffered a defeat in the top game of the 2nd Bundesliga against SV Darmstadt 98 on Friday evening, Hannover 96 the upward trend with great help from 1. FC Magdeburg.
Promotion favorite HSV has suffered its second home defeat. The North Germans lost 2-1 (0-2) against SV Darmstadt 98 in front of 43,943 spectators and thus extended their negative series against the Hessians. In the fifth year of second division, the team of coach Tim Walter managed a home win against Darmstadt (3 defeats, 2 draws). Ex-HSVer Patric Pfeiffer (4th minute) and Phillip Tietz (7th) provide a sensitive double strike against Hamburg in the starting phase. Ransford Königsdörfer creates the late goal (87th). There were four red cards in the game.
The Darmstadt team initially had to do without Klaus Gjasula because he received a second yellow card (59′). For the hosts, Aaron Opoku was sent off just eight minutes after he was substituted on for a kick against Fabian Holland (64th). Königsdörffer (89th) also saw red because of an assault. The protesting HSV sports director Jonas Boldt also had to accept the red card and switch to the stands.
Unimpressed by the fuss surrounding managing director Martin Kind, Hannover 96 won 4-0 (2-0) against the unlucky promoted Magdeburg after a spirited performance. Maximilian Beier (14th minute) and Luka Krajnc (44th) scored the first two goals from blatant defensive errors. Sei Muroya (56th) and Cedric Teuchert (90th + 1) ensure the final score in front of 23,908 spectators at the start of the fifth game day. Coach Stefan Leitl’s 96 selection improved to eighth place with their second win of the season. Magdeburg is stuck in 16th place after the third home defeat.
