Before the start of construction: New hydroelectric power station Almkanal
environment
In the city of Salzburg, preparations for the construction of a new hydroelectric power station on the Alm Canal are in full swing. An energy production cooperative led by the Salzburg green electricity exchange wants to revitalize an ancient power plant site.
The interest of the people of Salzburg is great – three quarters of the targeted cooperative members have already signed. The construction site for the Sinnhub hydroelectric power plant on the Almkanal already causes a stir among many Salzburg residents.
Especially since anyone who is interested can also acquire electricity procurement rights here, according to the chairman of the green electricity exchange, Franz Kok: “At the moment we have 150 subscription rights that have already been concluded and paid for. We are optimistic to complete the remaining 50 as we have requests to do so.”
30 years of green electricity for 5,000 euros
For a one-time fee of 5,000 euros, you acquire the right to purchase green electricity from the Alm Canal for 30 years at a fixed price, says Kok: “We are around 22 cents per kilowatt hour here. We experience that new subsequent electricity customers are shown up to 50 cents per kilowatt hour. Our intention is actually only to compensate for the construction costs and the ongoing operating costs. The fact is that we don’t take part & take part in this electricity price rally, but can act in a non-profit manner.”
No major cost increases expected
Kok does not fear any major cost increases due to the current inflation – the contracts with the construction and technology suppliers have already been concluded with price company guarantees. Only the start of operation of the power plant at the end of the Almabkehr could not be maintained due to delays in the supply chains.
