Pedestrianization extended until September 18
To do this, a two-way cycle path has been set up. On the ground, a large artistic fresco has been created and street furniture has been installed.
A summer pedestrianization which will be extended for a few weeks. While the experiment was to end on Monday August 22, 2022, the town hall has just announced that it will be extended until September 18.
A test outside of holiday periods
“This operation has been very successful with in particular a significant increase in pedestrians and cyclists using this axis during the summer pedestrianization of the bridge”, indicates the services of the town hall of Toulouse in a press release.
An extension that will also allow better measure the impacts of closing the bridge outside of school holidays and to assess the consequences of this pedestrianization on traffic in the neighboring districts, “in order to fuel reflection and consultation on the future of the Saint-Pierre bridge in the longer term”.
A decision which should partly satisfy the municipal opposition group Citizen Archipelago. Mid August, a petition calling for the extension of the pedestrianization of the Saint-Pierre bridge until the end of October, had thus been generated, in order to “work until then on a lasting solution to take over”.
