Bulgaria with three more medals from the European Weightlifting Championship – Sport
Bulgaria won three new medals on the last day of the European Cadet Weightlifting Championships in the Polish city of Rashin.
Among the super heavy 17-year-old weightlifters, Angel Georgiev came third in the final ranking in the category over 102 kilograms. The representative of the school in Cherven Bryag with coach Iliyan Iliev alone made six perfect attempts – 131, 136 and 139 kg for the silver in the throw and 162, 167 and 172 kg for the third place in the push, with which he collected a match of 311 kg and won the bronze in the general arrangement.
Georgiev improved by two kilograms his personal record in the throw and by five kilograms in the push. The gold went to Slovakian Vladimir Machura with 325 kg.
The Bulgarian athletes returned from the European Championship in Poland with a total of 9 medals: one gold, 5 silver and 3 bronze.
In the bouts, Bulgaria has silver for Martin Stanev (49 kg) and Nino Simeonov (55 kg), as well as bronze for Angel Georgiev (+102 kg).
The last group of Bulgarians, including super heavyweight bronze medalist Angel Georgiev, arrived from Poland on Thursday, August 18, on a flight from Warsaw, which is expected at Terminal 2 of Sofia Airport at 1:50 p.m.
