His wish is “to improve the daily life of animals” in Occitania. Celine Gradelpolice captain at Toulouse (Haute-Garonne) is also the president of the association “Les 4 Pattounes”. This association, which brings together police officers, gendarmes, veterinarians and even magistrates from the region, fights to offer a better life to animals. For this, its members organize several awareness training sessions and set up systems.
“We have four lines of action: helping animals in shelters, helping with adoptions, raising awareness among new generations and bringing together groups of police and gendarmes for the animal cause. There is a big lack of information on this. “
A microchip reader for animals
“Les 4 Pattounes” has existed for 3 and a half years now. Supported by its president, herself a police captain, the association is committed to the side of the police. And one of the last things she managed to get: it’s a chip reader for police and gendarmes. That is to say, a reader allowing them to directly identify the owner of an animal found lost, stolen or deceased…
“We obtained the boxes thanks to a partnership with the Domestic Carnivore Identification Service. Thanks to this, we have 300 chip readers which are deployed throughout France. In Toulouse, almost all the police and gendarmes are equipped with them. We expect all the police stations to have them.”
In France, the identification of an animal is obligatory : before 4 months for a dog, and before 7 months for a cat. Keeping an unidentified dog or cat is punishable by a fine of €750.
Formations
In addition to chip readers, the association also organizes training to “raise awareness”especially in middle and high schools.
Next October, the training will be given to lawyers, judges and magistrates in Toulouse. Requested by the Attorney General of the Toulouse Court of Appeal, Franck Rastoul, it aims to “train the teams and give impetus to the animal cause” according to the captain.
