Enough is enough. The inhabitants of the Jean-Macé district (7th arrondissement of Lyon), particularly those who live near the exit of metro B, are overwhelmed by the nuisances.
Drug trafficking has been established there for a long time. This place of deal has been taken over by a gang of young people who are living hell in the neighborhood.
A local resident, who wished to remain anonymous for security reasons, agreed to testify withLyon news. With a group of residents, they collect images that they sometimes send to the authorities to put an end to this situation.
“It took the path of the Guillotière”
Already, in July 2021, they succeeded in putting an end to a large part of the problems by alerting the EELV mayor of the 7th arrondissement, Fanny Dubot. “We were all pissed off, two, three years ago. Following the arson of the building, on a fact a request. We could see that it was taking the Guillotière path, ”says the resident.
Rodeos, intrusions into car parks, garbage fires… “the Colombier stadium had become a rat race”, he recalls. “There was a mess until 3-4 am, it had become the zoo. »
Place Jean-Macé: a point of deal that does not reassure
The town hall then installed two CCTV cameras in the two hot streets, near Place Jean-Macé. One of the entrances to the Colombier stadium was then welded. Measures much appreciated by the inhabitants who have been able to find a little calm…
But the problem has shifted. From now on, he concentrates on the place Jean-Macé, towards the Caisse d’Epargne and the Société Générale. In winter, “they traffic” even in the lobby of Société Générale. This area is squatted from 6:30 p.m. by 6 people and sometimes by a whole gang of about twenty individuals.
The fear of leaving home at night…
“There are guys who, at 3 o’clock in the morning, fire mortars at an apartment… It happened on July 7th. And, great novelty of this summer, we see kids of 4-5 years old trained with the big brothers. »
In the evening, the place becomes dangerous. Residents are afraid to leave their homes. Even during the day, elderly people refuse to go shopping alone. “I no longer take the risk of going out at night”, we are told.
The situation can no longer last, the inhabitants seize the prefecture of the Rhône. “There is a recovery in hand of the district with more frequent visits by the national police and the municipal police, in particular the mobile operational group (GOM)”, indicates the local resident.
This summer, things have rather calmed down but “there is still work to do” we assure you. “We need to put eight surveillance cameras in our parking lot so that they stop hiding their drugs there. »
“People have bought here, they don’t want to lose 40%”
After the “horror” experienced in 2021, the inhabitants have therefore become real lookouts, monitoring their neighborhood, reporting acts of delinquency. “People have bought here, they don’t want to lose 40%. Above all, they don’t want it to end like the Guillotière. »
For now, it’s still a long way off, but Place Jean-Macé is one of the big deal points in Lyon. According to our information, a phenomenon of gangs has set in since young people have been involved: fights, attacks… The area is much less quiet, we certify a police source.
