Berlin (dpa/bb) – At today’s meeting, the Berlin Senate will discuss where and how, for example, electricity and gas should be saved in the future administration. Economics Senator Stephan Schwarz (independent) presents a catalog of measures that the Governing Mayor Franziska Giffey (SPD) had promised in the first half of July. The aim is to save at least ten percent energy in the public sector in view of restricted gas supplies from Russia and significantly higher electricity and gas prices.
The planning for this was in the hands of an interdepartmental task force. All administrations were invited to submit proposals. Basically, there is agreement on the subject of red-green-red. There was a need for discussion on details, such as the much-discussed question of the extent to which lighting at Berlin’s Christmas markets should be restricted.
In addition, the Senate wants to extend the current regulation to protect the population from infections with the corona virus. It is valid until the weekend and should initially remain in force for another four weeks.
The Senate also wants to discuss simplifications in residence law for refugees from Ukraine without citizenship. These include, for example, people who had stayed in Ukraine to study. The agenda of the Senate meeting also includes an exchange on the status of planning for a separate Berlin state institute for training and further education for teachers and a report on the sustainability of state-owned companies.
