As in the past year, Anglo-Saxon institutions remain in the top ten: eight North American universities and British universities are at the top of the 202nd edition of this higher education, which has been carried out since 2003 by the independent company Shanghai Ranking Consultancy. .
At the top of the list, Harvard is once again ahead of the American Stanford. This year, another US university, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), took third place on the podium, relegating Britain’s Cambridge to fourth.
This is followed by the North American universities Berkeley (5th) and Princeton (6th) and Oxford (7th).
In total, 39 North American universities appear in the top 100.
The first non-Anglo-Saxon institution, the French university Paris-Saclay, is in 16th place.
The Shanghai Ranking takes into account its criteria, including the number of Nobel Fields medals – the Nobel of Mathematics – among graduate students and professors, the number of most cited researchers in their field and publications in the journals Science and Nature.
This year, more than 2,500 institutions were examined to establish a ranking.
